Avoid Getting Hustled
So you see a sweet deal on some Supras on some sketchy website? It sounds to good to be true, but you order ’em anyway. Unfortunately, when they finally get to your door months later they look like hell then fall apart after you walk about two blocks. Sorry, you got faked. Remember that these sites may be able to obtain product images from the Supra Footwear site to advertise their counterfeit merchandise. Be skeptical of any images used on these websites—they may very well be different from the product you will receive.
The good news is that it’s pretty easy to tell the real deal Supras from the counterfeit fakers. But before we jump into that, here’s some easy ways to avoid getting hustled.
- Only purchase from Authorized Supra Dealers.
- Search engines (such as Google) do not screen Web sites that appear in their search results... LAME! Be cautious of Web sites that appear on the first pages of Google searches for “Supra” or similar keywords or search terms—only the official Supra Footwear Web site and its authorized retailers’ Web sites are trusted online sources for purchasing authentic Supra Footwear products.
- Avoid websites that contain Supra anywhere in the domain name. If you are viewing Supra products online anywhere other than suprafootwear.com and the domain name includes “supra” or any variation of this word, or includes one of our style names in the domain address, e.g. “Skytop,” this product is certainly counterfeit.
- Be Smart. So someone is selling a bunch of Supras on Ebay before the release date? Guess what, they’re not a real Supra Dealer, those are definitely fake. Same goes for that website that’s selling Supras for way cheap, because they’re cheap fakes. If it sounds to good to be true it almost always is. If the first sentence on a lot on Ebay or selling off websites reads something like “These are real, not counterfeit, so don’t ask!” You know they’re fake.
- Ask us! If you see suspicious product on Ebay or a sketchy website deal contact us and we’ll let you know if it’s fake. Seriously, contact us for the answer.
Some Specific Ways To Spot Fake Supras
Starting with the boxes, the counterfeiters always use cheap cardboard and get the graphics wrong.
As well as being made from cheap plastic instead of leather, fakes are all wrong and have no metal eyelets for the laces. That way they save money, the lace holes stretch and rip out, and you look bad.
The most obvious things about these bread loafs is they usually can’t afford to use real vulk soles, and then they actually paint the black stripes on by hand. Super ghetto.
And finally pull out those soles. If you got some crappy paper thin cardboard insert instead of our cushy SupraFoam®, well, not only do your shoes look bad, your feet are going to hurt.
Facts about Counterfeit
A counterfeit product is any imitation or fake made with the intent to deceive the consumer into believing it to be genuine.
- Counterfeiting is illegal. It has a significant impact on the global economy, removing tens of thousands of jobs and costing the economy an estimated $512 Billion of legitimate revenue a year.
- Counterfeiting is not a victimless crime. Consumers who believe they are purchasing genuine items are left with inferior items that cannot live up to the consumers expectations. Counterfeiters also hurt manufacturers, retailers, and the economy. Counterfeiters do not pay taxes nor do they provide fair wages or benefits to their employees. They frequently use child labor and have been known to fund terrorism, participate in identity theft, and often fail to deliver goods that were paid for, among other crimes. When you purchase a counterfeit product, you are funding and supporting this criminal activity.
- Counterfeiters are not accountable to human rights and environmental regulations such as child labor laws, anti-sweatshop laws, and restricted substances laws. The basic human rights of the workers employed by these counterfeiters are often compromised, as well as the workmanship and quality of the counterfeited product.
